Aldehyde: Small Molecule, Big Role

The Aldehyde refers to a group of organic compounds that contain a carbonyl group bonded to a hydrogen atom. Aldehyde compounds are widely found in nature and in many everyday products. They often have distinct smells and are used in perfumes and flavorings.

In simple terms, an Aldehyde is formed when alcohols are gently oxidized. This makes them important in basic chemistry learning and industrial processes. Some well-known examples include formaldehyde and acetaldehyde. These compounds are used in making resins, plastics, and other useful materials.
